Sharing a flock with someone else¶
A sheep farm is rarely one person. It is a family, or a farmer and a contract shepherd, and at a gathering both of them are registering at the same time. LAMB lets you put more than one person on the same flock: everyone sees the same animals, everyone's registrations reach everyone else's phone, and the record keeps who entered what.
You share a flock with a join code — a short code you create in the app and read out to the other person. There is no invitation e-mail to wait for, and nothing to look up: the two of you are usually standing in the same shed.
1 · Create a code¶
Open Settlements (the farm list), find the farm you want to share, and tap the people icon next to it. That opens Access to the farm: everyone who has access, and — if you are an owner — the controls to add someone.
Tap Give someone access and choose what the code will grant:
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Member | Registers and edits, the same as you |
| Viewer | Sees everything, registers nothing |
| May send to the registry | Whether this person may file the farm's records with the national register (Iceland: Fjárvís). Off by default |
Tap Create a code. You get something like R7BF-9KV-PV7.
The code decides what it grants, before it exists
The role and the send permission are fixed to the code when you make it. Whoever uses it gets exactly that, and cannot upgrade themselves afterwards. If you want to give someone different access, make a different code.
2 · Give it to the person¶
Read it out, write it down, or use Copy code and send it however you like. The code is designed to survive being read aloud: it never contains 0, O, 1, I or L, so there is nothing to mishear or mistype.
A code is:
- single use — once somebody joins with it, it stops working
- valid for seven days, then it expires on its own
- withdrawable — as long as nobody has used it, you can revoke it from the same screen
3 · The other person joins¶
They need a LAMB account of their own. In the app, they open Settlements, tap the key icon at the top, type the code and tap Join. Capitals, spaces and dashes do not matter.
The farm appears in their list straight away, and their phone starts receiving the flock — the animals, the weighings, the births, everything the farm already had.
The same thing works on the website
On the LAMB website, both halves live under Profile → Settlements: the people icon on a farm opens the same access list, and Join with a code sits under the "Add settlement" button.
What each person can do¶
| Owner | Member | Viewer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| See the flock | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Register and edit | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ |
| Delete a record not yet sent | ✅ any | ✅ their own | ❌ |
| Send to the national register | ✅ | Only if you granted it | ❌ |
| Refresh the flock from Fjárvís (Iceland) | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ |
| Give someone else access | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
A farm can have several owners — a couple, or a family — and they are equals: each of them can register, share and manage the farm.
A refresh is the farm's, not yours
Pulling from Fjárvís updates the flock for everyone on the farm — one person refreshing is the whole farm refreshed, and the "last synced" time you see is the farm's, not your own device's. It does not matter whose Fjárvís login the farm was claimed with: the pull asks for the holding, not for a person, so a member with no Fjárvís login of their own can refresh just as well. Sending up to the register is the opposite — that files under a named person, and each person files under their own.
A record that has gone to the register cannot be changed
Once a registration has been filed with the national register, nobody on the farm can edit or delete it, whatever their role. You cannot un-send something from the official record. Anything not yet sent can still be corrected.
Who registered what¶
Every record now carries the account that entered it, so a farm with two people on it can tell them apart. That is also what the "delete only your own records" rule will be built on — see below.
Changing your mind¶
Access is not permanent. On the same screen, an owner can:
- change somebody's role — a member code handed out where a viewer code was meant is a mistake you can undo;
- remove somebody — their access ends and the farm disappears from their app. You can invite them again later with a new code, so removing is not a door that locks behind you.
Anyone can also leave a farm themselves, from their own row in the list.
Owners are equals, and a farm always keeps one
One owner cannot remove or demote another — owners are peers, so an owner who wants out leaves themselves. And the last owner of a farm other people are still on cannot leave until somebody else is made an owner: otherwise the flock would be left with members who can register but nobody who can manage it. LAMB will say so rather than let it happen.
Before you share¶
Giving somebody access gives them the whole flock — every animal, every registration, and the farm's own details. It is not per-animal and it cannot be narrowed to a season or a group. If you want somebody to look without touching anything, give them a Viewer code.
If you only want to hand the farm over to somebody else entirely — rather than share it — that is a different thing; contact support rather than sharing and then trying to leave.
