The search box — asking LAMB

At the top of every page on the website there is a search box. It does two things:

  1. Finds an animal — as before: type a valnr, lamb number, name or ear tag.
  2. Takes you where you want to go — type what you want to do in your own words, press Enter, and LAMB opens the right page, often with the fields already filled in.

Press / anywhere on the website to jump straight to the box.

Finding an animal

Start typing. Matching animals appear straight away in a list under the box — click one, or pick it with the arrow keys and press Enter, to open its record.

Asking LAMB

If no animal matches what you typed, the box shows "Press Enter to ask LAMB". Press Enter and LAMB works out what you meant. While it does, the box says "One moment…".

You can write in Icelandic, Danish or English.

Examples — Iceland

You type LAMB opens
skrá burð á 18-203 Birth registration, with ewe 18-203 selected
gaf ánni 18-203 pensilín í dag A new treatment, with animal 18-203 filled in
vigtanir or þungaskrá The weighing register
sendar vigtanir The weighing register, on the Sent to Fjárvís tab
fang sent The mating register, on the Sent to Fjárvís tab
fósturtalning The pregnancy scan register
ósamræmi við Fjárvís Differences from Fjárvís
haustið í tölum Your autumn in numbers

Examples — Denmark

You type LAMB opens
registrer læmning Birth registration
gav får 4521 penicillin i dag A new treatment, with animal 4521 filled in
registrer vægt Weight entry
registrer flytning A new movement
besætningsopgørelse The herd statement
importer dyr fra excel Flock import

You can use the page's name or your own word for it — vigtanir and þungaskrá go to the same place.

Sent and not sent (Iceland)

The registers that send data to Fjárvís (weighings, births, mating, pregnancy scans and reserved ear tags) have two tabs: Unsent and Sent to Fjárvís. If you say which — sent, sendar, ósent, ekki sent — the right tab opens. Otherwise Unsent opens, as before.

If LAMB isn't sure

Sometimes what you typed could mean more than one page. LAMB doesn't guess: it shows "Did you mean:" and a few choices. Click the right one. The last line is always "Search animals: …", which searches the animal list for your text.

If LAMB doesn't understand

If what you typed isn't something LAMB can do, the box falls back to an ordinary search of the animal list, as it always did.

What LAMB doesn't do

  • It never saves anything by itself. LAMB opens the page and fills in what it can; nothing is recorded until you press the save button. Always check the fields before you save.
  • It doesn't answer calculations yet — e.g. "which lamb gained the most" or "average weight by sire". Use the Reports & statistics page or the register itself.
  • It doesn't delete or change data in bulk. "Delete all my animals" does nothing more than an ordinary search.
  • It doesn't work offline, because the text is interpreted on a server.

What gets sent?

To understand your text, it is sent to a service that interprets language. Only the text you type is sent — nothing about your farm, your animals or you. Don't type personal information into the box.

Tips

  • Short is best. sendar vigtanir works better than a long sentence.
  • Type the number as it is — 18-203, 4521 — and it's carried into the registration.
  • Start with a verb to record something — skrá, gaf, registrer — and with a noun to look at something: þungaskrá, vejeliste.
